My mother’s memoir isn’t just her story. It is the tale of two loves, a privileged Southern upbringing, and the fear of war.
As her daughter, it is also about the work ethic of the Midwest, family values, the trauma of early death, and second chances.

Great Story

This is such a wonderful story. I read it more than once. It reminds me of the movie Sandlot because it took me back to my childhood like the movie did. Lots of movies have happy endings but it doesn’t always happen in real life. This book is just beautiful and such a marvelous read.

I feel like I was There

First Love, Last Dance was very descriptive and well written. I read the book in one sitting and while I've never been to Atlanta besides for the airport, nor lived on a farm, when I was reading about it I felt like I was there! First Love, Last Dance give me a very interesting look into what it was like to have a loved one in the military during WWII and it gives great insight into the various differences between Cleveland, OH and the South. I feel like if I ran into Peter and Elise on the street I would already know them.

I love memoirs and true stories and this has to be one of the best I've ever read. I live in the same area of Ohio that Nancy grew up in and I love to read well written books about the 30's, 40's, and 50's. It is a great true love story and her writing makes you feel as if you were there with her. I liked it so much I ordered my mom a copy (who usually will only read library books for free:)

Reminds me of Willie Nelson

"First Love, Last Dance" has the love thread but it is also a real life....that of the boomer daughter and all that happened to her mother when she first chose NOT to marry Peter. I'm reminded of Willie Nelson's answer when asked why he wrote all those sad songs replied, "It's what keeps the jukeboxes going."

Enjoyed First Love Immensely

I enjoyed First Love, Last Dance immensely! This is the very first fan letter (review) I've ever written, though I've read literally thousands of books in my lifetime. The story is captivating but you put enough of yourself in it to make it real and grounded...nothing contrived or embellished. Loved, loved the details.
