Vacation...and Grandma Lilly's house..............
|
This old brick house, Grandma Lilly's, in Cleveland Heights is still a special place in my memory bank. I lived there with her, alone, for several months when my mother had a miscarriage while in Georgia and had a tough recovery. Meanwhile, at age age 5...Lilly got me temporarily enrolled in kindergarten across the street. My father had gone to the same one and had the same teacher, Miss Leatherman. I never felt abandoned and always had things to do. Lilly was a widow by then so that the three story house felt huge to me as a child and now I look at it, and it isnt' so big. My mother says that my grandpa bought the house from a bank in 1930 for $5,000. A real estate DEAL. Grandma lived there until 1950 when she finally sold it and moved to an apartment. I had not seen it in 50 years...........what a nice, nostalgic vacation visit!

On his way to?
|
I am sitting at the light in my Prius, aware of the noise in the lane beside me. The young man is in a fancy imported car... I'm sure it belongs to his father. He has the music turned up so all within 100 feet can hear the latest rap hit. The car vibrates with testosterone. He has a lot on his mind...just before he races away...the light not yet green...in a hurry to buy his Father's Day card.

If Only We Could Gift Wrap................
|
The interior smell of a new car, the first time your new baby (or grandbaby) smiles at you, the pride we feel when an American athlete wins gold and stands on the podium while our national anthem plays, the joy when your team wins the World Series, the clean air after a hard rain on a spring day, a beautiful sunset, how you feel after a really good nights' sleep.

How your dog loves you more than your kid does....
|
DOG...loyal, loving, appreciative. A dog loves you more unconditionally than your kid and proves it every day. Waiting by the door, never rolling its eyes when you do something stupid. BTW, dog thinks you're just about the greatest no matter what you do. Dog loves whatever you give it for meals. When's the last time your dog said, "What? chicken again?"
Dog wants to spend as much time with you as possible. Doesn't need to borrow the keys to the car...only cares to ride in the car...WITH YOU. Windows down, back seat or the front. Or if riding in the car isn't possible, just a walk anywhere. Nothing fancy, doesn't even need to be a long walk.
Dog never gets embarrassed to be with you in front of other dogs. In fact, after he smells and plays with the other dogs, it only wants to come back to you. And the proof? a wagging tail, a lick, and if it could ... dog would smile!
