The Drama of College Football
Something that lifts us out of our ordinary lives and gives us joy (or sorrow)and a moment of union with others. This is how I see Michigan football. Now, I am a graduate of a MAC school but my husband is a U of M alum and has taught me the thrill of sitting in the "big house" and cheering for his team. They have always maintained a good standing in the Big Ten until the previous three seasons. This made my husband Shel sad and mad, I thought he would literally lose it. But 2011 brought a new coach and success returned. This season saw us in Ann Arbor with three of his fraternity brothers (all in the photo are 73, Shel is bottom left and I am beside him)for the Notre Dame game, which Michigan won in the last twenty seconds. I thought surely that would be enough for the year, but this weekend Michigan played their old time rival, Ohio State. OSU had won for the last seven years. Things did not look good for Michigan and their new coach, but once again, Michigan prevailed in the last minute of the game. WHAT JOY, to be lifted above all life's foibles. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, college football.

The Wisdom and Wit of Seniors
Art Linkletter coined the phrase, "Kids say the darndest things." It is certainly a pearl and one we could agree with. But kids and seniors share something in common ... it is their ability to say exactly what's on their mind, which is often humorous. It is the unexpected answer, or the one we were all thinking but no one wanted to voice.

I like to people watch at airports. You know, I'm sitting at my gate, waiting to board ... I've already read the paper and done the crossword, and I want  to save the book for the flight, so I'm bored. I either eavesdrop on other's conversations or I just start looking around. Such was the case two weeks ago when I was in Atlanta.

Two older gents, very nicely dressed, were seated next to me. Brothers I think. I look up to see a beautiful young girl in a skimpy outfit approaching before they see her. Within seconds one guy does notice. "Paul, three o'clock ... quick." The other brother almost gasps. They are riveted for the short time it takes for the girl to pass and then they turn to one another and giggle. "If that skirt were any shorter," the one guy says, "it would be a belt."
